Since July of 2009 the GJB has performed monthly at Aunt Chilada’s , usually on the third Sunday of the month. Known since 1993 as the best Mexican restaurant in the greater New Haven area, Aunt Chilada's is located at 3931 Whitney Avenue in Hamden (beside the golf course) just a couple of miles north of Sleeping Giant.
We will be back at Aunt Chilada’s from 6 to 8 PM on Sunday, September 20, 2026, with clarinetist/saxophonist and jazz historian Dr. John Clark, along with Mark Vigorito on cornet, Jim Fryer on trombone, Charlie Freeman on piano, Art Hovey on tuba & bass, Molly Sayles on drums, and vocalist Cynthia Fabian. In October we’ll be back again on the 18th with Mark, Andrew Anello, Jim Fryer, Charlie Freeman, Sal Ranniello, and Cynthia Fabian.
There is no cover charge and no minimum, but seating is somewhat limited; to reserve a table or a seat at the bar please telephone 203-230-4640. (The reservation option on the Chilada’s website does not work.) If you make a reservation but can’t make it please call again to cancel.
On Sunday, September 13 we’ll be at the First Congregational Church in Madison for our 18th annual Jazz service from 9:45 to 11 AM, followed by a free picnic, rain or shine. The church is located at 26 Meeting House Lane. This event is free and open to the public.
On Saturday, October 3 the GJB will perform from 11 am until noon on an outdoor stage at Parsons Patio, 79 West River Street in Milford as part of the Milford Fine Arts Council’s Milford Jazz Festival. Details are now available on that website.
An Early History of the Galvanized Jazz Band appeared in the July 2021 issue of the Syncopated Times. The second installment, The Millpond Years is in the August issue, and the third part, After The Millpond Years, is in the October 2021 issue. Non-subscribers can see each of them by clicking on the blue lettering. Jeff Barnhart’s moving Tribute to Fred Vigorito and Bill Sinclair was in the April 2026 issue, and continued in the May issue. We are now streaming our music online! Search for Galvanized Jazz Band on Spotify, iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, and Pandora! GJB 018 with Herb Gardner (formerly released only on cassette) is now streaming. The Les Paul, Noel Kaletsky, Uncle Yoke, and some of the George Masso CDs are also now streaming, and we’ll be uploading more from our extensive catalog to those streaming platforms.

Butch Butterworth's 34th annual Big Feathers Polo Tournament/Jazz Concert was Sunday, July 12 at the Giant Valley Farm, 640 Tuttle Avenue in Hamden. The polo match started around 1 pm, and we played from 6 to 7:30 pm with Jim Fryer, Lew Green, Mark Vigorito, Dr. John Clark, Charlie Freeman, Art Hovey, Tom Palinko, and Cynthia Fabian.
